Beng Kiat, my wife's brother-in-law and father of Candice, had passed away on 25 June 08 due to illness and heart failure. I, together with my family, attended his wake on 26 June 08 and his funeral yesterday morning.
The cortege started around 10.20am and after a short walk behind the hearse we boarded an air-con tour bus to Mandai Crematorium. There were about 40+ relatives and friends sent Beng Kiat off. On the way to Mandai one of my nieces mentioned the journey was like a holiday trip (with family members together).
This was my first trip to Mandai Crematorium & Columbarium. The surroundings are very serene. We proceeded to Service Hall 3 to attend a short solemn memorial service followed by bidding him final farewell at Viewing Hall 3. The scene of witnessing the hearse slowly moving forward towards the funnel was very traumatic, especially with the emotional and touching hokkien hymns sang by the church choir. It brought tears to most of us, if not all.
Farewell Beng Kiat and may God be with you always.
After the ceremony we returned to Havelock Road for lunch around 12.30pm.
